Weir out, 5 Canucks left at Shaughnessy..

For we Canadians Mike Weir was the story yesterday for all the wrong reasons, in case you missed it he has re-injured his elbow and had to WD after 6 holes.  He will get an MRI and hasn't ruled out surgery. His golfing future is certainly up in the air right now..

Five Canadians made the cut..
David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., and Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., both T5 at -2.  Hadwin fired a -4 66, converting five birdies before making bogey at No. 18. The 23-year-old Canadian Tour member said “Feels great. I kind of proved it today,I felt really good out there, felt really calm, especially the putter with the short game. Those two things held me in there a little bit. Just got to continue what I’m doing.”

Also advancing to weekend play are Canadians Brad Fritsch of Manotick, Ont., and Matt McQuillan of Kingston, Ont., both of whom are T28 at +1 and Dustin Risdon of Calgary, who sits T66 at +4

Here are all 17 Canadian scores..

As for the leaders, Michael Thompson and Chad Campbell are T1 at -4 through 36 holes. Thompson carded a -4,66 that included five birdies, three of which came on the back-nine at No. 15, No. 16, and again at No. 18. He is a 26-year-old from Tuscon, Ariz., who turned pro in 2008. 'I'm having a great tournament. I’ve been working hard on the range this week and really trying to be confident with the swings that I make because this is a tight golf course, I’ve been playing really well, putting well. Excited to have the opportunity to be in one of the last groups tomorrow. I’m just going to have fun.”

Campbell who is coming off a T5 finish at the Open Championship last week carded a 3-under par 67  that included 5 birdies and only 2 bogeys. He is typical of the kind of player suited for Shaughnessy. Not long but plays that controlled gentle draw, re known ball striker with a decent short game.

Lots of nice story's on the leaderboard with Paul Goydos just a shot back, Lee Janzen at 46 from out of nowhere, Ricky Fowler, now with an entourage all dressed in electric orange yesterday and of course our 2 Canucks.

The stroke average is over 73, for this tough par 70, and the weather for the weekend is more of the fine fare we have seen thus far.
