Alex Noren shoots 10 under par 62 to win the BMW PGA Championship

European Tour BMW PGA Championship final leaderboard https://www.europeantour.com/en/europeantour/tournaments/2017/bmw-pga-championship/#leaderboard

" This is the best round I have ever played" the words of Alex Noren from Sweden, who has just won the prestigious BMW PGA Championship with an incredible course record -10 62 including the icing on the cake, a huge drawing 5 iron to within 6 feet for an eagle 3 on the 72nd hole which will be on all the highlight reels tonight.

He started the day at -1, seven shots behind the Aussie leader Andrew Dodt and went out in 31 shots. Then on a course on which he admits he's always had trouble with the closing holes, he played the final 7 in -6 for another 31, and that 62 for the clubhouse lead at -11.

Then the rain came, not heavy, but enough to soak the course including the rough, and changing the speed of the greens.

It also changed the momentum of all the leaders. Dodt, Branden Grace, Lee Westwood all shot 73's to fall out of contention. In the end, Francesco Molinari with a -4 68 came 2nd at -9, while Henrik Stenson (68), Nicolas Colsaerts (65) and Hideto Tanihari (68) all T3 at -8.

Noren the first Swedish winner of this event in it's 72 year history, gets a 5 year exemption on the European Tour, a 3 year exemption into the Open, becomes the 3rd most winning Swede with 9 wins, behind Stenson and Robert Karlsson with 11 each and he will be ranked 8th in the world on Tuesday.

He has worked as hard as anyone after recovering from a serious wrist injury after falling to #700 in world, and as a result he takes home $1,166,660 in this new lucrative Rolex Series.

"The difference for my game is that I finally have found the Calloway Epic driver which I can trust to hit it where I am aiming, and I never had that before. Now I don't have to worry about big misses right or wild hooks and I can relax. Putting has always been the strength of my game, and I used to have to rely on that to score".

As it happens the next stop on this European Tour is the Nordea Masters... you guessed it... in Sweden !!

Pelley inspired Rolex Series has Dodt leading the BMW PGA Championship on Sunday

European Tour BMW PGA Championship leaderboard https://www.europeantour.com/en/europeantour/tournaments/2017/bmw-pga-championship/#leaderboard

For those of us who know Keith Pelley as a friend and a colleague, there is no surprise at the job he is doing as the CEO of the European Tour. Everyone in sports in this country knows his resume with TSN, Sportsnet and as President of the Argos.

However he is a complete unknown in Europe so had the old boys network to deal with when he assumed his position this year. With his wife on board, and his kids living in style in the prestigious leafy lanes of Virginia Water in Surrey, not far from London he set about to make the European Tour the place for all his players, stars and journeymen alike, to make as much money as they can on the PGA Tour. He has travelled to every stop on the schedule and has sat and listened to what they are telling him.

This week begins a step in the right direction, with the new Rolex Series, the premium tournament category on the European Tour’s International Schedule. Presently comprising eight tournaments, staged in a variety of golfing locations around the world, Rolex Series events will offer a minimum prize fund of US$7 million per event.

It also includes the Scottish, Irish and French Opens, and culminates in the season ending DP World Championship in Dubai.

Andrew Dodt, a veteran Aussie, a 2 time winner has the Sunday lead 70 70 68 -8 in what has been a breezy week on the west course at Wentworth with it's all new greens.

However the wind has dropped today, they have made some of the pins a wee bit more accessible and the leaderboard is full of red numbers, the best of the bunch is south African Dean Burmester who is -6 through 15 holes and is now just a shot behind his fellow countryman Brandon Grace who is in the final group with Dodt, at -7.

Watch for Henrik Stenson, he looks good today and has back to back birdies to move to -6, Lee Westwood only used 23 putts yesterday and he is in contention in a large group at -5, so it is a jam packed leaderboard.

Remember this historic course has a par 3, par 5 par 5 finish which has been the setting for so many memorable championships....

Today should be no different.

Ames aces the 15th, Singh leads Langer in final round of Senior PGA

Senior PGA Championship leaderboard http://www.pga.com/seniorpga/scoring/leaderboard

Stephen Ames is having a breakout season on the Champions Tour with his win at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship and 4 top 10 finishes, yesterday he added a second hole in one to the resume, a six iron on the par 3 15th on  his way to a -4 68, T15 going into today's final round at the Senior PGA Championship on the Trump National in Washington DC.

The leader is the ageless Vijay Singh with rounds of 66 68 67 -15 putting with what he calls a modified claw putting grip that kind of let him down, missing three birdie putts inside 10 feet and a tiddler for par that may prove costly come 6pm tonight.

He is in this event for the first time, and is using his field leading length ( 292yd average) to power his way around this soft course adjacent to the Potomac river. His 67 has him just a shot up on guess who, yes the relentless Bernhard Langer who was outdriven by Singh all day, but used all his resources to shoot 70 -14 total to set up today's marquee match up at 1.40pm EST.

Sweden's Carlsson leads BMW PGA Championship

European Tour BMW PGA Championship leaderboard  http://en.espn.co.uk/golf/sport/site/golflive_euro.h

Many thought Henrik Stenson was the man to watch this week at the European Tour’s PGA Championship despite the fact no Swede has won in 62 years.

However it was fellow Swede, Johan Carlsson who jumped to the top of the $7 million leaderboard. The lanky Swede returned a -6 66 to lie one shot ahead at -6 of the trio of Francesco Molinari, Scott Jamieson and Kiradech Aphibarnrat all at -5 67. Stenson is part of large group in fifth place at 4-under after a 68.

Carlsson is still looking for his first European Tour win since turning pro in 2012. The 30-year-old’s best European Tour finish is fifth, in the 2014 KLM Open and last year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Paul Lawrie Match Play. His form this year hasn’t pointed to contending in Europe’s biggest tournament outside the Open Championship.

Jordan Spieth is the defending champ...

James Hahn, Lexi Thompson, Fred Funk are your Sunday leaders

Sunday will prove to be another exciting, dramatic day in golf including a major up for grabs on the Champions Tour. Here are all the leaderboard links, and main storylines starting in Birmingham, Alabama

PGA Tour Champions, Regions Tradition http://www.pgatour.com/champions/tournaments/regions-tradition/leaderboard.html

It is raining early this morning at the Regions Tradition, and there is more in the forecast throughout the day so the field is paired in three's, off split tees, but the first tee time of 8am EST has been delayed.

Fred Funk has his putter working so far with rounds of 67 65 70 -14 he has a one shot lead over Scott Parel with Bernhard Langer and Scott McCarron lurking at -12.

Rod Spittle 69 58 73 -6 T20 and Stephen Ames 70 72 71 -3 T30 are the Canadian contingent.

PGA Tour AT&T Byron Nelson leaderboard http://www.pgatour.com/leaderboard.html

If Sunday is like Saturday with it's birdie barrage, it will be a shoot out to the finish down in Irving, Texas where American James Hahn with rounds of 64 70 64 is clinging to a one shot lead at -12 but he has  only to slip up and he has the prospect of a hungry Billy Horschel right behind him at -11 then Jason Day coming off a 63 in at -10 along with Jason Kokrak who had a 62 on Friday. Sergio Garcia, a past two time winner is in a group at -8

Nick Taylor is the only Canadian who made the cut and he is T36 69 73 66 -2

LPGA Tour Kingsmill Championship leaderboard http://www.lpga.com/tournaments/kingsmill-championship/leaderboard

Who wouldn't want to see Lexi Thompson win this week after a minor rules infraction cost her a major, the ANA Inspirational a month ago. She has a 3 shot lead after shooting a -2 69 in tricky wind conditions over In Gee Chun into today's final round of the Kingsmill Championship. She is at -14.

Canadian Brooke Henderson shot a 69 T15th at -4 . Alena Sharp is at -1.

Lydia Ko is at -9 after a 70 and you know she hasn't won since July, after firing yet another coach and changing all her equipment.  So Yeon Ryu and Ariya Jutanugarn therefore are hot on her heels for the world's #1 ranking.

Disastrous 45 front nine sinks Hearn's chances at the Players

PGA Tour Players Championship leaderboard http://www.pgatour.com/competition/2017/the-players-championship/leaderboard.html

In yesterday's post "Hearn in great shape for a run at the Players" which sadly has been eaten somehow or another by the Blogging God  (I can't find or recover it after a hour of trying everything) I wrote about how much David embraces TPC Sawgrass, and how his patient playing style pays off for him and how he felt the course really suits his eye..

Well, with the wind blowing, driving up the scoring average by nearly 4 shots, David made par at the first, remaining at -5 just 4 shots out of the lead, but then reeled off 4 bogey's, a double and a triple at the ninth for a front nine of 45, I can only imagine that must be close to his worst 9 of his career.

To his credit he continued to battle on the treacherous back nine, all pars with a birdie at the 16th for 35, but sadly the dreaded 80 has knocked him right out of contention.

He goes into today's play 70 69 80 +3 T54 along with Adam Hadwin 71 72 76. MacKenzie Hughes is T25 67 75 74 E.

Hearn was not alone in his struggles on this windswept moving day. Jon Rahm of Spain was five shots behind but missed the 54-hole cut with an 82. Matt Kuchar took a 9 on the 14th hole and shot 81, his highest score ever on this course. Phil Mickelson shot a 78.

The leaders at -9 are JB Holmes and Kyle Stanley, with Louis Oosthuizen, a noted wind player next at -8.

Two of the better rounds of the day belonged to Si Woo Kim 68 to move him to -7 followed by Emiliano Grillo 67 -6 and a rejuvenated Ian Poulter. The best round belonged to Pat Perez who got around in -6 66 earlier in the day, he has moved to -4.

The cut fell at +2, the highest in 30 years, so a second cut was required after play last night. The weather forecast predicts more of the same today, wind gusting up to 30kph, so don't expect the score to be much lower than -10.

Some of the big names : Jason Day and Rory are at -1, while Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler are E.

It's Denmark and Australia in the Golf Sixes final

European Tour Golf Sixes leaderboard http://www.golfsixes.com/

europeantour.com
Denmark and Australia will go head-to-head in the final of the GolfSixes with the revolutionary new event set for a dramatic climax this afternoon at the Centurion Club.

The Danes birdied the last to beat Italy's Matteo Manassero and Renato Paratore 2-1 in their semi-final, as Thorbjørn Olesen looks to add this team play event to his resume playing alongside Lucas Bjerregaard.

The team of Scott Hend and Sam Brazel are waiting for them in the showpiece match after they claimed a 2-1 win over Scottish duo Richie Ramsay and Marc Warren.

Huge numbers of fans were once again enjoying the new format, with the teams battling it out in greensomes over six holes in great weather. Fireworks, flashy team intros, youngsters counting down the 30 second shot clocks, simulated crowd noise following the flight of the ball on the par 3's all have added to a fresh and wildly successful debut.

Canadians in Sunday contention..Taylor, Svensson, Ames

With Brooke Henderson losing to Shanshan Feng, 1 down at the Lorena Ochoa Match Play, the Canadians who are in contention today are Nick Taylor on the PGA Tour, Adam Svensson on the Web.com and Stephen Ames after a second round 65 T12, is 6 shots back of John Daly on the Champions Tour.

Here are the live leaderboards..

PGA Tour Wells Fargo Championship leaderboard http://www.pgatour.com/competition/2017/wells-fargo-championship/leaderboard.html

With rounds of 71 69 71 -5 Nick Taylor is 3 shots behind the leader, American Patrick Reed as play begins down in Wilmington NC today. Taylor has 1 PGA Tour win under his belt, the Sanderson Farms back in 2014.

MacKenzie Hughes is having a good week at 70 72 71 -3, while Brad Fritsch also made the cut 73 71 74 +2. David Hearn MC.

The main story is that 17 players were within four shots of the lead. including marquee names like Phil Mickelson (69) and Dustin Johnson (67), both at -4. Johnson would have been much lower but he couldn't make a putt, so watch out for the big world #1.

Web.com Corales Puntacana Resort Championship leaderboard http://www.pgatour.com/webcom/tournaments/corales-puntacana-resort-and-club-championship/leaderboard.html

PGA Tour Champions Insperity Invitational leaderboard http://www.pgatour.com/champions/tournaments/insperity-invitational/leaderboard.html

Down near Houston Texas, Stephen Ames who won his first Champions Tour event last week fired a terrific -7 65 to move up into a T12 at -5, albeit 6 shots behind John Daly 68 65 -11 who is looking for his first win of any kind since 2004.

Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino put on quite a show, and the sponsors painted the Arnie Palmer umbrella logo out on the fairway as a reminder to us all about the last winning competitive putt he sank here for his life long friends, in 2012.
