Weekend wrap up.. Course record for Rod Spittle

PGA Tour
To me Nick Watney is like so many PGA Tour pros now. Kinda boring, but extremely talented and his golf this weekend at the AT&T bears that out.

Watney played his final 27 holes this week without a bogey, going 12-under during that stretch and his weekend of 62 (course record) 66 was more than enough to win  by two strokes over K.J. Choi (67) It was his 4th career win, 2nd this year and he is now atop the money list with over $4m, and moves up to #10 in the world when today's revised rankings come out.

Watney entered the final round tied with fan favourite Rickie Fowler who slipped to T13 after his +4 74..

Stephen Ames was the top Canuck and although well down the field it was nice to see Weirsy play 4 rounds for the first time in a while..

John Cook won the Montreal Championship for his third Champions Tour title of the year, closing with a -6,66 Cook, the runner-up last year at Fontainebleau Golf Club, beat Taiwan's Lu Chien-soon (70) by three strokes. Joey Sindelar (68) was third at 17 under, and Bill Glasson (64), Corey Pavin (67) and Dan Forsman (68) were another stroke back.

Rod Spittle broke the course record with a 62 to finish T7 at 15 under. Spittle, from Niagara Falls, began the round in a tie for 49th."I expect to win sometimes this year and this is just a great boost of confidence,"

He was asked the key to his record setting round.."Today was probably my best driving day. I lived in the fairway the whole day. And you know, again, as I'm sure when other guys have said up here, we just had it in -- just had a bunch of wedges into greens.  I just had birdie putts virtually the whole day"

Spittle won back-to-back Canadian Amateur titles in 1977 and ’78. In '78 at Laval he beat the great Gary Cowan and Bob Mase by 10 shots, and he said afterwards that he met fans all week who remembered that win.

Other Canucks.. Jim Rutledge T35 at 208, Yvan Beauchemin T52,210 and Daniel Talbot 79th, 221..
