I was watching a replay of the new Feherty show on the GC with Rory McIlroy at his home in Holywood NIreland, thinking what a nice young kid (22) Rory is while he and Feherty played football on his little backyard pitch, all very nice, butter wouldn't melt in his mouth type of thing..
Rory is T45 at -1, 70 but he made double bogey 6 on the 18th, playing the Irish Open in Killarney, after he drove into the fairway bunker, then hit his 9 iron approach into the pond beside the green.
Jay Townsend, a regular on the European broadcast team was critical of Rory taking driver off the tee, just because he didn't have to bring the bunkers into play with a 3 wood. Later on twitter he described his course management as “shocking” and “some of the worst I have ever seen beyond under-10 boys' golf competition”.
McIlroy responded: “Shut up ... you're a commentator and a failed golfer, your opinion means nothing!”
Townsend then stated "Sorry but that's the way I see it and I stand by my comments " and McIlroy then said: “Well, I stand by my caddie.”
So now I am looking forward to this morning's broadcast !!
Meanwhile Jeev Milka Singh had the low round of his life -8 63 while Darren Clarke, McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Paddy Harrington have yet to provide the fireworks the crowd are anticipating.
Singh had an eagle and six birdies, 6 shots ahead of Open winner Clarke (69), 7 ahead of US Open champion McIlroy (70) and 9 better than last year's US Open winner McDowell (72).
