There is a mixed bag of weather in the forcast for Shaughnessy GC, but heh it's in Vancouver. There was a lot of rain last week so this field that features 12 0f the world's top 50 will find it receptive.
Marc Calcavecchia won the last time it was played here with a total score of -5, 275 because receptive or not, Shaughnessy is a tight par 70 with smallish, undulating greens, narrow fairways and for the Canadian Open, very thick and penal rough. A ball strikers course for sure..
It overlooks the mouth of the Fraser River and Strait of Georgia and it is celebrating it's 100th birthday. Since 1911 at the old CPR site called the Shaughnessy Heights Golf Course, then since 1960 with land acquired from the Musqueam Indian Band for the present 162-acre site called Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.
Featured Groups
While most of the experts are picking Luke Donald, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar or Ryan Moore, my pick is going to be a guy I have grown to realize is not just a slow player, but a pretty funny and very dedicated family man, Ben Crane, who was T2 last time here, his straight game suits this course..
