The field has now finished round 2, they've been playing since 2am est, 7am locally and round 3 is well underway with 33 players within 3 shots of the lead. With the event reduced to 54 holes for the first time in it's history, I can tell you Colin Montgomerie has eagled his first hole to move within a shot of the leaders. He needs a top 5 finish to get into the Open next week..
Reducing the event to 54 holes is not ideal for any tournament, especially a national championship, but is does make for a great viewing with so many in contention, a playoff seems more than likely.
The holes along the Moray Firth are closed to the spectators and the public car park is under water. There are showers in today's forecast, and it is estimated that 6 months of rain fell in that one huge storm in the wee hours of Saturday morning that caused the landslide..
There are 7 players tied for the lead including US Open champion Graeme McDowell.
