Friday Night Golf Wrap.. McQuillan in contention

European Tour

europeantour.com: Graeme McDowell was joined by home pair Scott Jamieson and Pete Whiteford at the top of the leaderboard after firing a second round 64 to set up the possibility of a second Barclays Scottish Open title in four years.

Last year's US Open Champion stands -11 halfway through round 2 and when play was suspended for the day after two thunderstorm delays he was sharing the lead with Scots Whiteford and Jamieson.

Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, World # 1and 2, and Open Championship-chasing Colin Montgomerie were among those affected by the hold-up.

Donald and Westwood managed 11 and 9 holes respectively and both will resume on -7, while Montgomerie is one further back at -6 and onlyT25th now in pursuit of the T5 finish he needs for Sandwich.

From my vantage point the morning flight had ideal conditions and their scores reflect that, ie 64 Graeme McDowell etc...

The great news for me is that Matt McQuillan backed up his opening 64, with a solid 69 -9 good for T8, by far his best playing of the year, remember he has missed 10 straight cuts. I have posted the Canuck scores below.

John Daly took 13 on the par 4 4th after hitting his ball into an unplayable lie way right, so far that he was hoping the ball was lost so he could re-tee. He took 3 unplayable lies as he hacked his way out...72,81..

Chez Reavie, winner of our Canadian Open in 2008 in monsoon conditions at Glen Abbey had surgery on June 1 last year for a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee, relied on near-flawless putting today to shoot a -9 62 to take a two-stroke lead at the John Deere Classic.

Steve Stricker shot a 64 to finish at -12  in his bid for a third straight victory in the tournament. Steve Marino (66) also was -12 , while Jhonattan Vegas (64), Mark Wilson (67), Brendon de Jonge (66) and Kyle Stanley (67) were four off the lead.
