Anne Catherine Tanguay has opened her 2019 LPGA season with a bogey free -6 66 T2 at the ISPS Handa Vic Open at the Beach Club south of Melbourne Australia. Tanguay, from Quebec City regained her status via LPGA Q school.

Su Oh of Australia held the lead for most of the day with Tanguay, both at -6 under. Kim Kaufman joined them in a T2 with a 66 in the afternoon.

However it was England's Felicity Johnson who made a late move with a -8 65 on the Creek course to snatch the lead going into round 2..

Meanwhile veteran Alena Sharp is T10 with -4 69 on the Creek course. Brittany Marchand and Jaclyn Lee are T97 +1. Brooke Henderson had to withdraw due to illness.

This event features men from the Australasian /European Tour playing alternative holes with women from the LPGA /LET tours. The Beach course is being played as a par-72 for both men and women; the Creek is par-72 for men and 73 for women. Both courses will be used for the first two rounds of the tournament

On the men's side it was Nick Flanagan, an Australian who won the 2003 U.S. Amateur, who shot a -10 62 on the Creek course to take a two-stroke lead. Among those tied for second were Flanagan's roommate, James Nitties, and Kurt Kitayama, Hugo Leon and Callum Shinkwin.

Nitties (62) who has no status on any tour started on the back nine at the Beach course, tied a record for consecutive birdies with nine, equaling Mark Calcavecchia's record at the 2009 Canadian Open.

Canadian Austin Connelly is T88 -2 70.
