Dustin Johnson tops a world class field at WGC Mexico Championship

Dustin Johnson  hasn't made a bogey in 36 holes, shooting 64, 67 to lead this WGC Mexican Championship at -11 just 2 shots clear of a world class field headed by Rory McIlroy 63 70 -9 and Matt Kuchar 66 67 -9.

DJ plays so well at this Chapultepec Golf Club that he putted for birdie on every hole on a course where he won two years ago, when he was #1 and says he likes the course for the thinking required.
"It makes you focus. You've got to think, and you're doing a lot of calculations with the numbers and trying to figure out how far the ball is going to actually go. So I enjoy it. It's pretty narrow, but it's tree-lined, so I do like that"

All the talk after round 1 was Rory after his effortless 63, and his new found lease on life, and he started round two with 2 birdies but stalled on the 9th when he 4 putted from 15 feet for a double bogey.

" It's funny, I had breakfast with a few of the boys that played later yesterday and they said it was going to be hard to hole putts in the afternoon, and they were right. I had a couple go the opposite way on me. I missed a couple short ones. But overall, I stayed patient. After I made the double on 9, I sort of righted the ship and made a lot of pars and made one birdie. It could have been worse. It could have been better, but still in a good position going into the weekend."

Ryder Cup teammates Sergio Garcia and Tommy Fleetwood are next at -7. Fleetwood opened with a pair of eagles on his way to the low round of the day 65.

Tiger, resplendent in pink and black is having another solid week T8 after his -5 66.

Last year's world player of the year Francesco Molinari is in a group at -4.

Playing at altitude in smog ridden Mexico City the ball is travelling farther than usual leading to some exciting scoring with guys like DJ and Rory hitting long irons over 300 yards. The tricky greens have kept the scoring somewhat in check.
