I thought Monty was going to win this one the way he was in such command Friday and Saturday but he slipped up on his back nine on Sunday, ended up with 72, good for 5th.
It was Bart Bryant who fought his way back into contention when he shot -10 62 tying a course record, while Monty's playing partner Lee Janzen had a -5 67 including a birdie putt on 18, so both ended up -16.
The playoff didn't last long after Bryant hit a short drive, leaving him 180 yards to the pin and he hit that shot onto the railroad ties before it bounced back into the water. Janzen on in two, two putted for the win, his first on the senior circuit. The U.S. Open champion in 1993, 1998, hadn't won an individual tournament for more than 16 years, over 413 starts.
Bernhard Langer withdrew from the tournament and returned home to Boca Raton to be with daughter Christina who is suffering after she had back surgery five weeks ago.
