Wallie Coetsee takes a two-shot lead into the final round of the Joburg Open after a -2 70 earlier today. Chasing a first European Tour title, Coetsee extended his overnight lead by a shot with five birdies and two bogeys to go -14 at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington.
There are four players tied for second behind him, with fellow South Africans Tjaart van der Walt and Jacques Blaauw, and Englishmen David Howell and Steve Webster all -12. 20 players are within 3 shots of the lead.
Webster rediscovered his form to set the clubhouse target earlier. His last top-ten finish on The European Tour came more than a year ago, he led the way for most of the day with a flawless -7 65. That put the 40 year old, who captured the last of his two titles in 2007, -12 in a share of the clubhouse lead with South African, Jacques Blaauw, who turned in a -5 32 on his front nine.
South Africans have won the last five stagings of this event, and with Garth Mulroy, Tjaart van der Walt and Justin Walters joining England’s Simon Dyson a shot behind there was every chance of that run continuing.
