The wind finally subsided and in the desert sunshine, American Kurt Kitayama has just won his second title in just 11 starts on the European Tour, the Oman Open. He shot -2 70 -7 total to win by a stroke over 4 players.
Spaniard Jorge Campillo, German Maximilian Kieffer, Frenchman Clément Sordet and Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti all finished at -6.
With the field playing catch up all weekend after high winds and sandstorm wiped out play on Thursday, the outcome of this event was in doubt until the last two holes where the young American emerged, outlasting the contesting pack by a shot. This win was more remarkable when you consider he was a single shot off the lead after 36 holes of the weather delayed event but started his third round with a quadruple bogey eight and dropped further shots on the second and third before darkness ended proceedings on day three, seven shots off the lead going into today where he had to play 33 holes.
By the way there were 10 different countries represented in the top 11 spots on this truly international tour.
