Henderson, Hadwin, Spittle, Canadians to watch this weekend..

It's Saturday of the Labour Day weekend and the humid soup that has dominated our weather snuck back in overnight while we were asleep and apparently will hang around yet again well into next week while the kiddies are settling into school.

Canadians are playing golf all over the world, but 3 in particular are as hot as the weather. Brooke Henderson of course, and with less fanfare Adam Hadwin and retiring veteran Rod Spittle.

Here is a summary with live scoring of their positions heading into the weekend.

Women's British Open champion, Georgia Hall shot a -9 63 yesterday to take a three-stroke lead in the Cambia Portland Classic and break the tournament 36-hole record at -15 129.

Meanwhile Brooke Henderson who opened with a -8,64 overcame her first two bogey's and battled back for a -1 71 to sit T5, six shots off the lead but declared herself happy with the result.

" I got off to a shaky start with back to back bogey's but I just kinda fought all day to get back under par, so I'm happy with 1 under. I would have liked to have been better today and get up the leaderboard a little more, but I just felt like I kind of battled my way through today and I feel like I did a good job of that."

Of note Brittany Marchand shot a -5 67 and is at -8.

Adam Hadwin is enjoying a very solid end to his 2018 season, finishing T11 last week, and in this the second week of the Fed Ex Cup playoffs sponsored by Dell Technologies he has opened with a -3 68 good for T8, just 3 shots off the lead of Justin Rose -6 65.

He made 4 birdies and an eagle offset by a bogey and a double. He is currently projected in the Fed Ex standings at 39th. Remember the top 70 after Monday's play move on to the next round, so he is in a good spot.

Play in round two at TPC Boston is underway, and the scoring so far is low. Adam is off at 12.52.

Champions Tour Shaw Charity Classic leaderboard https://www.pgatour.com/champions/tournaments/shaw-charity-classic/leaderboard.html

Rod Spittle at 63 is the oldest player in this Shaw Charity Classic  at the Canyon Meadows G&CC in Calgary, and he is all set to retire at the end of play on Sunday.

He has a chance to go out in a blaze of glory after opening with a -4 66 T3, just 2 shots behind Kirk Triplett and Miguel Jimenez who had matching 64's.

After a stellar amateur career, you may remember Rod gave up his career in insurance when he turned 50, sold everything he had to set out on his dream of playing pro golf on the Senior Tour.

He could play a full 20 events this year but says his pet peeve " is athletes who hang around too long and get in the way of younger guys who are battling day in and out to get ahead with their games."

He has a win to his credit, and a second at home in Canada would just be the icing on his pro career. It won't be easy, but would be great for the man regarded as the nicest guy on tour.
