Matt Wallace wins Made in Demark, does he make Ryder Cup

Young Englishman Matt Wallace has just come from 6 shots back to win the Made in Denmark tournament in a 4 man playoff, his third win of the year and he did it right in front of Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn.

Now the plot thickens as the 8 players for his team have been confirmed.

The eight players hold six Major titles between them and all eight have won one or more Rolex Series event on the European Tour. Of the eight qualifiers, there five Ryder Cup rookies.

The four players who qualify via the European Points List are The Open champion Francesco Molinari, Olympic champion Justin Rose, Rolex Series event winner Tyrrell Hatton and the 2017 Race to Dubai champion Tommy Fleetwood.

Those qualifying via the World Points List are World Number Five Jon Rahm, former World Number One and four-time Major winner Rory McIlroy, ten time European Tour winner Alex Noren and the Tour’s form horse this year, Thorbjørn Olesen.

That leaves 4 picks for the captain. Ian Poulter is at #9 and seems to be a lock. Does Matt Wallace earn a pick with his gutsy win, he is at #18 with the likes of Henrik Stenson (16), Sergio Garcia (13), Paul Casey (11), Rafa Cabrera Bello (10) ahead of him.

With past stalwarts like Graham McDowell, Martin Kaymer, Thomas Pieters and Lee Westwood (who was in today's playoff) well down the list or acting as assistant coaches, there could be 6 rookies on the team.

It all may be a mute point as Captain Bjorn's team go into the match in Paris at the end of the month as rank underdogs after year's of dominance.

However that is just the formula that has successfully fuelled the Euros for year's, so the stage is set for David vs Goliath yet again..

Best 3 days of golf every other year. Can't wait.
