LPGA Tour Evian Championship leaderboard http://www.lpga.com/leaderboard
Maria Torres is an enormously likeable happy young lady from Puerto Rico. She giggles while she talks which belies the sadness she shares with all her fellow countrymen as her island struggles to this day to overcome the ravages of Hurricane Maria which left most without power for a year.
The rookie has shot 65 69 -8 to take the lead in the mountains above Lake Geneva at this last major of the LPGA season, the Evian Championship.
American Amy Olson has shot -6 65 to tie her for the lead, little Mo Martin shot 66 as did Minjee Lee to also finish -8 but none of the others put together really low rounds.
That was good news for Brooke Henderson who was battling her game today, trying to get in at even par, heck she was even caught cussing on camera after she pulled her tee shot at the short par 3 14th wide left into the deep rough. However typical of Brooke she chipped out over the green, but holed a 15 footer coming back for a battling par 3.
After an opening -4 67, she started today with birdies at 4 and 5 to get to -6, but followed that with bogey at 6 then an unlikely double bogey 7 at the par 5 7th.
A bogey at the 12th dropped her to -2, but a huge drive at the 13th led to a 12 foot eagle putt which she missed but tapped in for birdie, battling back to -3.
Her short and mid iron game were a bit loose today. Yesterday she hit 17/18 greens in regulation, today she is 8/14 so far.
With a birdie at the 15th and another at 17, Brooke has battled back to -1 for the day, -5 total and she put a capper on her fight back with a birdie at the last to finish T6 -6 just 2 shots off the lead.
Alena Sharp had a good day, 73 68 -1 so she will join Brooke for the weekend, while Brittany Marchand 74 71 +3 to make the cut on the number
