DP World Tour: Investec South African Open ..Leaderboard
There would be no golf report here today about this version of the South African Open if not for the architects who rebuilt the Durban GC in 2023 to improve drainage in part, and to the tireless efforts of the grounds crew who worked all through the dark night with pumps and shovels and rakes to even allow any play at all, after a 3 hour delay this morning.

This course was badly flooded, seen above before the rebuild.
One picture of the 16th fairway this year, completely under 7 feet of water after torrential rainfall being playable today is simply improbable.
Its doubtful round 1 will be completed today with the clubhouse leaders at -7 65, and there is rain in the rest of the forecast.
However Aaron Cockerill who missed the cut in Kenya last week got off to a great start with 4 birdies in 5 holes beginning on the 10th tee to go out bogey free in -4 32. He came back in with pars except for a bogey 5 on the par4 5th for 37 and his -3 69 has him T19.
more to follow..........
