DP World Tour : Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship Leaderboard
It was moving day a million miles away from Pebble Beach to the Persian Gulf group of islands in the Middle East that make up the Kingdom of Bahrain this time on the Royal GC, the only all grass course in the Muslim country.
Here the rank and file of the DP World Tour continue their Middle East swing.
The wind that this course depends on to protect scoring got up, and overnight leader Callum Tarren managed a creditable 72 to go with previous 64 67 to hold off the field at -13
His round burst into life, with birdies at the fourth, sixth and seventh sending him four clear at the top of the leaderboard.
But there were more twists and turns to come as three bogeys in five holes from the eighth allowed countryman Dan Brown to join him at the top.
Tarren was never overtaken on Saturday, though, and finished the day alone at the summit on -13
He said: "I'm a bit frustrated really. I got off to such a good start, felt so comfortable.
"I just missed a few putts in that mid-section of the round, three-putted the eighth, a short one at the ninth, a good chance at the tenth and didn't capitalize.
"And then I kind of hung in there coming in. Frustrated but still in the lead and we'll go again tomorrow.
"I've felt comfortable all week and I felt comfortable out there today. The start showed it - through seven holes I was cruising.
"Just a couple of missed putts here and there but that's golf. Final group tomorrow again and I have the lead so there's lots of positives to take from it."
However the title is up for grabs as there are 11 players within 3 shots heading into Sunday.
4 of them are T2 at -12, Spanish veteran Pablo Larrazabal, England's Dan Brown, Italian Francesco Laporta and 1st round leader with a course record 61, Brandon Robinson Thompson.
Canada's Aaron Cockerill made the cut for the first time in 3 outings, opening 71 68, and was cruising along at E until a bogey 5, par 4 15th after he couldn't get up and down from the fringe behind the green, then a skulled greenside bunker shot at the par 3 16th led to a double.
He recovered with a 16 footer for birdie at the par 17th to finish +2 74 down 20 places from Friday, and will start Sunday T39 -3..
