edit *** Adam Hadwin leads Canadians into weekend at Phoenix Open

PGA Tour : WM Phoenix Open : Leaderboard

In a rare circumstance, 5 of the 6 Canadians at this version of the WM Phoenix Open improved their standings on the scoreboard by all shooting -5 66 !

With the 36 hole lead at -12 66 64 by the long hitting Belgian, Thomas Detry followed by Americans Alex Smalley 67 65 -10 and Michael Kim 69 63 -10 the leaderboard is stacked with 16 players within 5 shots of the lead to begin the weekend and that includes perennial front runners Nick Taylor who is the defending champion and Scottie Scheffler (69 66 -7) both have finished either first or second in the last two years on TPC Scottsdale Stadium course.

I also note Jordan Spieth who has struggled for the last 2 years with a serious wrist injury requiring surgery has returned to play after nearly 5 months T4 68 65 -9 and the brilliant South Korean, Tom Kim, one of the stars of the International Team at the Presidents Cup is T4 67 66 -9.

Adam Hadwin high fives fans as he walks to the 17th green of the 2019 Desert Classic, Sunday, January 20, 2019.

Canadian scores

Adam Hadwin T8 68 66 -8

Adam Svensson T12   69 66 -7

Nick Taylor T18 70 66 -6

Mac Hughes  T18 70 66 -6

Corey Conners T34 67 71 -4

Ben Silverman T52 73 66 -3

With 8 players returning at 9.45 est this morning to complete rd2, the cut is projected at -2 so it looks like the Canadian's stellar play on Friday will ensure all 6 will play in what I'm sure is going to be a weekend shootout, chasing the Belgian leader.

Weather : There is no rain, nor much wind forecast for the weekend, and with sunny skies and comfortable temperatures as the days warm up, scoring conditions will be ideal, which usually lets the whole field in.

It is often the bad weather (wind, rain etc.) that separates the men from the boys.
