Friday; The Players.. Scheffler hype, Taylor / Conners contend ...live scoreboard/ TEE TIMES

PGA Tour : The Players Leaderboard Tee Times

Scottie Scheffler has many in the media anointing him as an almost "unfair" runaway winner, with his new putter, defending his Championship.

With all due respect to my colleagues and the world #1, and while it is true that guys in form tend to be trending for a few weeks before cooling off, that's the way golf is. In 2022 Scheffler won 4 tournaments in the space of 6 weeks, Phoenix Open, AP Invitational, WGC Matchplay and the Masters, a remarkable run. That year he posted 18 top 12 finishes, a record topped only by Tiger.

He also lost 3 of 4 matches in the Presidents Cup that year, and was beaten along with Brooks Koepka 9&7 by Aberg and Hovland the most lopsided loss in the history of the Ryder Cup, where he went 0-2-2.

I believe one of his greatest strengths is that he is a devout Christian. He, his wife Meredith, his caddie Ted Scott all attend Bible class regularly. " I really want to work daily with a Christian, that's how I try to live my life" His agent Rocky Hambric sponsored his confirmation in the Catholic Church.

In their world "thy will shall be done" is a guiding tenet' so as Scottie says, "I just prepare myself as best I can and put the rest in God's hands"

 Thursday

A perfect weather day, with little wind made the TPC Sawgrass gettable, none more so than Rory McIlroy who began on the 10th and promptly birdied 6 of 8 holes before dropping a shot at the 18th. He then birdied 4 of the next 9 with a double on the 7th when he hooked his drive into the aqua. 31, 34 -7 65 with a double and a bogey, a remarkable start to his week where his 10 birdies tied the Players championship record.

Wynham Clark matched him late in the day with some clutch putting, this guy has emerged since his win at the US Open as a world class player.

Xander Schauffele displayed some unbelievable recovery shot making on his way to 65 as well.

T4 right behind those three are Canada's Nick Taylor with a bogey free -6 66, he is driving the ball long and straight, along with England's Ryder Cup star and US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick 66.

Scottie Scheffler began with a bogey 5, but was solid after that and is in a large pack at -5 67.

Canadians

Nick Taylor T4 -6 66  a bogey free, 6 birdie start, Nick drove the ball straight and in play.

Corey Conners T13 -4 68  -4 in opening 3 holes a great start 32, double at #5 only blemish
