Cheers to 42 yr old journeyman Englishman David Skinns.. Sunday leaderboard.. TEE TIMES

PGA Tour : Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches Leaderboard Tee Times

There are as usual a dozen storylines heading into Sunday at the Champion Course PGA National resort in one of America's most expensive neighborhoods. Palm Springs, Florida.

Shane Lowry 67 67 66, Austin Eckroat 65 67 68 and David Skinns 65 69 66 are all T1 -13, three shots clear of the chasing pack.

The weather forecast has a low front coming through, with sun and showers possible all day, especially through the lunch hours with calm winds picking up to 15mph for the leaders.

Lowry who lives nearby, had this event in his grasp in 2022 standing on the 72 tee, when what he called "the worst break I've had in a while" befell him when the skies opened with torrential rain and wind. Just ahead Austrian Sepp Straka finished just before the bad weather with a birdie while Lowry could just manage par to lose by a shot.

However 42 year David Skinns may have the best storyline. The Englishman born in Lincoln, , who lives in Georgia and has acquired an American drawl after attending U of Tennessee, played the Hooters Tour for four years where he won 7 times, eventually qualified through the Korn Ferry Tour (won the Pinnacle Bank Championship twice) all the while being supported by his wife Kristin, whose job allows him to play golf.

He hasn't made a cut in three 2024 starts, has no points or money, and was about too get lost in the priority reshuffle coming after the Valero Texas Open. He should get his first top 25 finish in 32 PGA Tour events, a top 3 gets him into the $20,000,000 Bay Hill event next week, but heck the win takes care of everything including the being the 7th oldest first time winner at 42yrs 1month, 2days.

"I've waited a long time to be in this spot, I've seen and experienced just about everything in this game, It's more I'm excited to be here, trying to make every moment as good as it can be. I'm just really excited"

He and Lowry are in the final pairing at 1.40pm weather permitting.

Canadians

Ben Silverman T11 68 71 66 -8

Corey Conners T58 69 71 71 -2

Rory (67 67 72 T26 -7) was sailing along at -2 on his round until a bogey at 15, then a triple bogey 7 at the dogleg right par4 16th after he put 2 approach shots in the water.

15 players are -8, 2 more -9 and 5 at -10. Mother Nature could well decide the eventual  winner today with the TStorms and wind arriving as the leaders head out.

The Cognizant Classic is taking place Thursday-Sunday at PGA National Members Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

My quick link leaderboard above tells those story's..

Amongst the leaders, always popular Irishman, Shane Lowry 67 67 66 13 now 36 from Clara, Ireland his roots, but now so wealthy after his Open win at Royal Portrush for all of Ireland at 2019 he and his family live in Jupiter, Florida

He is tied with Austin Eckroat 65 67 68 -13 and my guy 42 year old English journeyman from Lincoln  England David Skinns who turned pro in 2005 and after an unpublished journeyman career around the world, finally qualified for the big show via Korn Ferry Top 25 2023.

He has MC events in his first 4 events Sony, American Express, Torrey Pines, Pebble Beach but here he is set to finally win the Jackpot 65 69 66 -13 in the final pairing on Sunday..

He won the Price Cutter Championship twice to keep his pro life afloat, but Sunday in Ritzy Palm Beach Florida where few of the wealthy care about a slogger from Lincoln in England, David Skinns is set to write a story tell finish that golf badly needs..
