Canadian Savannah Grewal breaks soring record 64 to contend in China...full leaderboard

LPGA Tour: Blue Bay LPGA PAIRINGS

Most of the attention as they head into the final round at the Blue Bay LPGA in China will quite rightly be on Lydia Ko, in a 3 way tie for the lead at -12, but with 20 wins, just needs one more to become the youngest player to be inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame.

However here in Canada, tour rookie, in just her 2nd event 22 year old Savannah Grewal has caught our attention in sensational style breaking the 18 hole record with her -8 64 which included 10 birdies and just a double on #12 after a poor drive.

She is T5 69 74 64 -9 just 3 shots off the lead and is in the penultimate pairing just behind the leaders.

Savanah is from Mississauga, Ontario, and qualified T10 at Q School. She attended Clemson University on a scholarship and forgave her final year of pre med school after turning pro just before Q school.

She has a Swedish-Korean mother and an Indian father. Her mother took her for a golf lesson at Pipers Heath GC in Milton when she was 6 and she fell for the game.

Father Ashoak is a Physical Education teacher who watched her weekly golf videos from her coach, then spent hours on the range enforcing their teaching.

When she was 12 she began playing tournaments in the AJGA (American Junior Golf Association and soon moved to Florida to stay with her grandparents December-April so she could play all year round.

We next heard about her, she won the Girls 14,15 Drive Chip and Putt at the Masters. When her grand father took her to a Clemson football game she set her heart on attending there after she saw their golf program.

She ended up as part of their 2023 Atlantic Coast Women's Golf Championship, and intends to return there when her career is over to complete her medical degree.
