PGA Tour : Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches Leaderboard Tee Times
We mentioned in closing yesterday the wind picking up would give the Champion course at this PGA National resort some of the teeth it needs to be a good examination for these pros, and that was the story on Friday, at up to 20mph at times, over 60 players were over par.
Wind at 15mph will be a factor on this Saturday in Palm Springs as Fridays' play wrapped up early with the cut falling at -2 and the leaderboard jammed with 22 players in the top 20 within 5 shots of the lead.
Local boy Bud Cauley has been off for nearly 3 years, but he leads 66 65 -11 with Austin Eckroat 65 67 -10 and South African lefty Garrick Higgo 67 65 putting like a magician on -10.
Another 10 players are within 3, all in the top 10 and they include Rory T6 67 67-8 and Frenchman promoted from the DP World Tour, Victor Perez T4 67 66 -9 with his compatriot Matthieu Pavon T14 67 68 -7 just 4 shots behind.
Two Canadians made the cut with Taylor Pendrith missing a 12 footer on the 18th to get in after make 3 bogeys in his last 5 holes.
Ben Silverman now 35, from a Jewish family in Thornhill is back on Tour via the Korn Ferry, lives in Juno Beach, Palm Springs, and for years with no status he kept his game sharp playing weekend mini pro events around the state apparently winning over 24 of them.
Ben Silverman T43 68 71 -3
Corey Conners T53 69 71 -2
Taylor Pendrith MC 69 72 -1
Adam Svensson MC 70 75 +3
Michael Gligic MC 70 76 +4
With calmer weather and possible rain in the Sunday forecast the Saturday shoot out is about to begin, check my live scoring link above as well as today's pairings.
