Heavy rain delays play at Houston Open

PGA Tour Houston Open leaderboard https://www.pgatour.com/competition/2018/houston-open/leaderboard.html

PGA Tour rookie Sam Ryder really had to be a good golfer with a name like that. Samuel Ryder of course is the founding father of the Ryder Cup.

He holds the clubhouse lead at -8 through 15 holes after the first round of this rain delayed Houston Open down in Humble Texas. He's back early this morning (8.30 EST) to finish up along with the others who didn't finish. 2" of rain fell overnight softening up the greens and delaying play for 2 hours.

As a result Bob Tway Jr and Lucas Glover shot -7 65 early in the day.

With the Masters looming next week, some guys like Phil Mickelson (68) and Jordan Spieth (68) choose to play here this week, others like Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy just take it off and go to Augusta early to prepare. Some like Bubba just go on a kindergarten holiday with their kids.

Their are 4 Canadians in the field. Mac Hughes got his round in -3 69. The other 3, Ben Silverman, Nick Taylor and Corey Connors are all +1 through 13 holes and will be out early this morning, weather permitting, and there is nothing but blue skies in the forecast for today and tomorrow.
