Daniel Hillier emerged from a crowded leaderboard on the final day at The Belfry to claim his maiden DP World Tour win.

The New Zealander began the final round three shots adrift of a six-way tie for the lead and still appeared a long shot when he reached the turn in one under 35. At the time, the European Challenge Tour graduate trailed by five from Dane Niklas Nørgaard, who had opened his day with three birdies in his first seven holes.

And while Niklas Nørgaard’s round hit a buffer either side of the turn, dropping four shots in as many holes, Hillier went eagle-birdie-eagle from the 15th before a nerveless two-putt par helped secure a two-shot victory. "I'm over the moon and a bit lost for words,” he said in the immediate aftermath of his victory at the Brabazon Course.

"Those last few holes are going to take a while to process I think.”

Hillier follows in the footsteps of countryman Bob Charles, who won this tournament in 1972, and the 24-year-old was thrilled to be in such illustrious company.

He added: "That's pretty amazing. Obviously, he's New Zealand's golfing hero so it's pretty cool to be on the same trophy as him.

As if a trophy and big move up the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex wasn’t enough for Hillier, victory also ensured his participation at this month’s Open Championship.

A two-time winner on the European Challenge Tour, he will make his second appearance in The Open after his debut at Royal St George’s two years ago.

He will be joined at Royal Liverpool by American Gunner Wiebe and Englishman Oliver Wilson, who finished joint runner-up together on an eight-under-par total of 280 to claim the other two spots on offer to the highest finishes not already exempt.

Former World Number One Justin Rose cast an upbeat mood as he closed out his week with a bogey-free 69 to claim a share of fourth place.

A past winner and former host of this event, the 2013 U.S. Open Champion was targeting a first DP World Tour win since the 2018 Turkish Airlines Open on the back of a resurgence this year.

Victory at Pebble Beach on the PGA TOUR in February was his first in four years and he finds himself comfortably in the world’s top 50, ranked 28th following the latest update on Monday.

With both the Genesis Scottish Open and The Open on the horizon, Rose is now hopeful he can build on this performance as he looks to improve his hopes of Ryder Cup selection at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in September.

“This week has been a good test of everyone’s game I think,” he said. “It is a good benchmark of where you are at.

“Normally you would say that about a U.S. Open but I felt this week the parameters of the fairways and how tight you had to hit the ball, I just thought it was a way to get a good read on my game.

“So, I am happy with how I passed that test and hopefully I can build on that over the next few weeks.”

Langer re writing history books, wins US Senior Open.. final results/prize money

Bernhard Langer claimed a record-breaking 46th PGA TOUR Champions title with victory at the U.S. Senior Open.

The German had been tied with Hale Irwin for the most wins for a player on the American over-50s circuit since he won the Chubb Classic for a record fifth time in February.

Holding a two-shot lead heading into the final round at SentryWorld in Wisconsin, Langer carded a one-under-par 70 to claim a two-shot victory over Steve Stricker, worth $720,000.

With his 12th senior Major title, and the 65-year-old becomes the oldest player to win on the PGA TOUR Champions, extending his record for both.

“It feels awesome,” Langer said. “It's been a long time coming, but very, very happy.

"Never thought it would happen at a U.S. Senior Open, but I'm very thrilled that the record of 46 wins happened this week.

“It's certainly one of the greatest tournaments we ever compete in, and to beat this field, where everybody was here, especially Stricker and [Jerry] Kelly on their home grounds, is a very special feeling. Very grateful.”

Two-time Masters Champion Langer seized control on Sunday with birdies at his first two holes and three of his first five before another gain at the ninth saw him stretch his lead to six shots. Despite bogeying his final three holes, it did not prevent him celebrating a deserved victory.

Fellow former Ryder Cup Captain Stricker, who was bidding to make history of his own by becoming the first player to win the first three senior Majors of a season, was among those quick to pay credit to Langer's achievement.

“It's amazing, isn't it? All-time win record, and now 12 majors,” Stricker said.

“He's going strong at - what is he, 65 or 66? Sixty-five.

"It gives all of us hope, I guess, that are out here still playing that we can continue to play as good as he's played for such a long time. It's really impressive."

My old coach used to say after a close loss, " There can only be one winner, but today there were no losers"

Certainly that was the case for Adam Hadwin this weekend, especially after he followed a tournament record Saturday 63, with a 67 Sunday and the chart topping -24. (66 68 63 67)

As it turned out Rickie Fowler and Collin Morikawa were on the same number, thus the 3 way playoff.

Both Morikawa with a 12 footer, and Hadwin with a 15 foot chip had their chance to win outright with Fowler left the runner up. However both did not fall, the old adage "a game of inches"..

Adam's 25 footer for birdie on the playoff hole looked in all the way, but this time it just rolled past, importantly Fowler was on the same line, and got a great read, which he used to win minutes later, his first in 4 years, following several week's of fine play at the US Open and the Travelers where he led after 54 holes.  

The win worth $1,584,000 and 500 FedEx points.

Hadwin's game was as good as it gets, driving well, accurate iron play and a hot putter albeit on a soft Detroit GC. The T2 result worth $783,200

It is stinking hot and humid in Detroit, the same weather system that soaked us to the skin at work here in Toronto by 9am yesterday, 30*c..

Adam Hadwin tied the course record -9 63 after opening 66 68 -19, Taylor Pendrith was nearly as good until he made bogey on two of his last 2 holes, for 67 after earlier 67 64 -18

Rickie Fowler has been in the lead until Sunday at the US Open and LA Open's since Butch Harmon took over his coaching ..and after a Saturday 64 when he birdied 6 of his last 8 holes, he is again, 67 65 64 -20

Adam Svensson 71 67 71 -7 is near the bottom T61.

With much needed rain, thunder and lightning in the forecast the field will  be split in half off the 1st and 10th tees, with the leaders out at 9am, five hours earlier than usual to try and get the 72 holes in for TV.

Poker faced Fowler hasn't won since he got married 4 years ago, has led after 54 holes 10 times in his career, winning just twice.

His last win was in 2019 in Phoenix.

For Canada, to have 2 players in the top 3 heading into Sunday is the big story north of the border, with all due respect to the little Texan.

Both are hoping to be the 5th Canadian to win on the PGA Tour this year,

Local hero Andy Sullivan enjoyed a birdie-birdie finish to make it a six-way tie at the top heading into the final day at the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo.

Joost Luiten and Guido Migliozzi had set an early target of seven under on day three at The Belfry but it seemed unlikely they would be at the top at the end of the day when they were signing their cards.

On a frenetic day of scoring in the wind, however, that proved to be the case as Sullivan, fellow Englishmen James Morrison and Oliver Wilson and Dane Niklas Nørgaard all finished at the same score.

German Maximilian Kieffer was then at six under, a shot clear of Frenchman Romain Langasque and South African duo Bryce Easton and Justin Walters, with 39 players within five shots of the lead.

Luiten - who finished second last week at the BMW International Open - and Migliozzi both fired rounds of 68, with the other four leading contenders getting round in 70.

Home duo Sullivan and Wilson were in the penultimate group and with a large crowd gathered on the 18th, the former got the biggest cheer of the day when he holed a 40-footer down the slope to join the lead.

The four-time DP World Tour winner hails from Nuneaton, less than a 30-minute drive from this week’s host venue, and he was delighted to be in contention so close to home after registering just one top ten so far this season.

"I'm absolutely buzzing," he said. "I can't wait. I'm not going to lie, I'll probably go have a little beer right now to calm down because literally, the nerves on the last when the putt was going down, I was thinking, this could be three-putt.

"It's amazing. It's been so nice to see so many friendly faces out there. I'm going to enjoy it.

"I didn't get anything going all day, very steady, very solid, and then last couple of holes was sweet to finish like that."

He will face some stiff competition if he is to make it win number five, though, with Luiten looking for his seventh, Migliozzi his fourth and Morrison and Wilson both seeking a third victory.

By the time overnight leaders Justin Rose and Antoine Rozner teed off, they were in a seven-way tie for the lead and it would be a congested leaderboard for the rest of the day.

Rose was then in a 12-man group at four under after a 74, a shot ahead of Rozner and seven others.

Matthew Baldwin secured a £50,000 donation to Prostate Cancer UK from Betfred as he made it 28 holes-in-one from 28 events this season, holing a five iron from 198 yards at the 14th.

Pendrith shares the 36 hole lead at Rocket Mortgage Classic.. full scoreboard

 Taylor Moore and Taylor Pendrith shared the Rocket Mortgage Classic lead at 13 under Friday, hoping to hold off a veteran trying to end a victory drought and a promising young pro aiming for his first PGA TOUR victory.

Pendrith shot an 8-under 64 at Detroit Golf Club, one off the tournament record. Moore, who began the day tied with Monday qualifier Peter Kuest, had a 67 to match Pendrith at 13-under 131.

Rickie Fowler (65) and former top-ranked amateur Ludvig Aberg (67) were a shot back after two straight solid rounds.

Pendrith, a big hitter from Canada, closed the gap with five birdies on his front nine and three more on his back in a bogey-free round. He tied for seventh this year in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am for his best career finish.

Adam Hadwin is also right in contention with a group of 6 others, T9 66 68 -10, while Adam Svensson made the cut, T41 71 67 -6

Michael Gligic will not play this weekend. The cut fell at -4. He shot 75 70 +1

Rosey fights back to share the lead at British Masters... full scoreboard

Justin Rose produced a late fightback to share the lead with Antoine Rozner heading into the weekend at the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo.

The Major Champion entered day two at The Belfry with a one-shot lead and still held that when he teed off in the afternoon, with Frenchman Rozner having set the target at six under with a 68.

But he would soon find himself three off the lead after four bogeys in his first ten holes, before he picked up three shots in his last seven in a 73 to rejoin Rozner at the summit.

English amateur John Gough was then at five under alongside countrymen James Morrison, Andy Sullivan and Oliver Wilson, defending champion Thorbjørn Olesen, another Dane in Niklas Nørgaard and German Yannik Paul.

Rose claimed the second of his 11 DP World Tour wins at this event back in 2002 and since then has achieved almost everything there is to in the game, winning the 2013 U.S. Open along with Olympic Gold, World Golf Championships, Rolex Series events and topping the Rankings on both sides of the Atlantic en route to being a World Number One.

On a wet and windy day, however, The Belfry can be a test for anyone and Rose was delighted to use all his experience after his poor start on day two.

"If I had gone and shot 76 today, I'd have walked off and been quite bewildered because I did not play that badly but the score had slipped away from me after ten holes and that is what it is," he said. "The scorecard doesn't lie at the end of the day.

"You count on those par-fives on the back nine a little bit, 15 and 17, to try to give you some opportunities. But they are certainly no gimmie birdies, either.

"So I'm sticking with it and readjusted my goals. Actually set myself a goal for the last seven holes to be three under par and that's what it turned out to be.

"Didn't appreciate that I would still be leading the golf tournament but through 36 holes I'm in a great spot."

Rozner is enjoying yet another impressive season on the DP World Tour since his 2019 graduation from the European Challenge Tour which was achieved with the help of two wins in as many weeks in Spain and the Czech Republic.

Since then he has finished in the top 50 on the Rankings every season, claiming three wins - including the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in December - and he has three other top tens and just two missed cuts from 15 starts this campaign.

"I've been hitting the ball pretty solid for the most part," he said. "Putting has been good even though the last few weeks was a bit not as good.

"But I think my whole game is good. I don't have any weakness in my game, so I think that helps me just being very consistent week-after-week.

"It's a course where I've never really played well. So just to be able to get out and produce some solid golf, I was really happy with that in the first place. Today, I caught a few putt drops, so that's good. I'm right where I need to be, so really happy with my game so far."
