Great fightback sees Connors in the final group on Sunday.. complete scorebord Sunday tee times

PGA Tour : Valero Texas Open leaderboard/ tee times here

A double, a bogey and 2 birdies had Corey Connors heading the wrong way on Moving Day at the Valero Texas Open. He was down to -7 with his playing partner, the leader Patrick Rodgers at -11

How he did it :

However his day and his fortunes turned around at the short par 4 11th with a booming drive, and a hundred yard wedge to 7' which he made for the first of 5 birdies on the back nine.

On the par 4 12th he almost holed his wedge for another, par 5 14th he was on in 2 and made a 2 putt for another, the par 4 15th one of his shots of the day, 180yds from the fairway bunker to 6' for another, a bogey from the bunker in the middle of the par3 green but his final birdie short par 4 17th where he got up and down from the greenside bunker. Out in 37 back in 32 for -3 69  2nd place -11

" I didn't get off to the best start, made a few mistakes, but really happy battling back on the back nine, made some birdies. Yeah, lots of good vibes and momentum going into those holes on Sunday.

Patrick played really solid today (-1 71 -12) he's going to be tough tomorrow and a lot of people chasing us as well. I'm just going to play my own game, I certainly have confidence, I like a lot of things I did today, will give it my all and hope I have the lead at the end"

Sunday tee times: (edt)

12.41 Corey Connors -11, Patrick Rodgers -12, Matt Kuchar -9

11.46  Nick Taylor -6, Nico Echavarria -6 Taylor Montgomery -5

So Corey is looking to repeat the championship he won here in 2019, the only win of his career. I have to say watch out for the smiling assassin Matt Kuchar who drove it OB on his way to double bogey 7 at the 18th or he'd be tied with Corey. Kuchar is having a renaissance this year and is in form. At 44 he has 9 career wins, 3 more world wide, currently ranked 66 owgr and he last won 4 years ago in 2019, but he was 9th last week at the Dell Match Play.
