DP World Tour : Korea Championship
With 7 birdies against 3 bogey's for a -4 68 Aaron Cockerill has moved up 27 spots to T20 -4 on this tough Jack Nicklaus course in the Korean Championship.
There were a couple of 65's, a few 66s, first round leader from France Antoine Rozner came back to the field with a bang, as expected 63, 74, same guy, same clubs and ball,11 shots worse. However the lead is only -8 heading into the weekend held by hometown favourite Korean Sang Park 67 69 -8 and German Yannik Paul 68 68 -8. The cut fell a E par.
Park had this to say about playing at home "With the DP World Tour coming to Korea, I want to prove that Korean players can also have the chance to win on the DP World Tour. That is why there are a lot of Korean players on the leaderboard."
Cockerill played the back nine first, with 4 birdies and a lone bogey at the par 3 17th for -3 33. With little wind the officials set the course up with some very tough pins.
Coming in with birdies at #3 and #4 he was at -5 with 5 holes to play and a shot a something really special and he added another at the 7th, but bogeys' at 6th and 8th, just slowed his progress, but he will happily take 72 68 -4 T20 just 4 shots off the lead, and in contention for the second week in Asia.
Richard T Lee has missed the cut 73 76
There is more wind expected for the weekend.
