The drain on the DP World Tour continues, Matt Fitzpatrick wins RBC Heritage.... final results/ prize money

PGA Tour : RBC Heritage Leaderboard / Money/Finishes

The inevitable shoot out took place on Sunday at the RBC Heritage, a combination of ideal conditions and a short by Tour standards, Harbour Town links, with 14 players including 3 major winners within 4 shots.

By now you'll know that England's Matt Fitzpatrick stuffed his 180yd approach on the 3rd playoff hole (18th) 'within the leather' to edge defending champion Jordan Spieth for the title and the plaid jacket.

Matt Fitzpatrick climbs to eighth on the Official World Golf Ranking

Great news for the young man from Sheffield who has an British pedigree with the best, but there is a downside.

Consider this :

2012 : British Boys Amateur

2013 : low amateur Open Championship, US Open Amateur

2014 : World #1 Amateur

2015- 2023  9 professional wins, 8 on the European Tour

2019 : European Ryder Cup member

2022 : US Open

The downside for followers of the European /DP World Tour, is winning the US Open already gave Matt a 5 year exemption on the PGA Tour, and this year under the new Strategic Alliance the top 10 players in the Race to Dubai will receive their PGA Tour cards, and say toodaloo to the DP World Tour except for the Open and a few select events.

With 17 PGA Tour designated events worth $20,000,000 or more compared to 5 Rolex Series events worth $9,000,000 DP World events, you can see why the drain on players born and raised in the UK and all other countries where they plied their trade on the European Tour is more desirable that ever. Also the OWGR points awarded are heavily tilted to the PGA Tour.

Not to mention the LIV series is lurking around the corner with offers of unmatched wealth that you know all about.

A few years ago Lee Westwood from Worksop in England decided to move to Florida to enhance his career, but after a short stay in the lap of luxury, and a divorce, decided to move back to Scotland to be nearer his children. Now he is getting millions from LIV without a win to his name, and a new wife. easy peasy

Homesickness with the internet and private jet travel at their fingertips is easily solved for today's top pros.

The move to the US has been going on since Tony Jacklin's era, he still lives in Florida, and many Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, Rory McIlroy etal are as proud of their heritage as any, but live in great weather and supreme luxury in Florida's, Arizona's, South Carolina's gated communities.

It is all adding up as my colleagues in the UK have been saying for years, the DP World Tour and all  it's tradition, to be blunt has turned into a feeder tour, like AAA baseball.
