PGA Tour : The top story this morning is that Rory McIlroy has withdrawn from this week's $20,000,000 RBC Heritage, and has given no reason, publicly. This is quite common on the LPGA Tour but the reason eyebrows have been raised, is this is Rory's 2nd miss of the new "designated event" series which only allows one without a medical issue.
Further Rory had a bad week MC at Augusta and left with no interviews. In fairness he has been an absolute stud for the PGA Tour so expect no disciplinary action, however it does set a precedent which will arise again.
Also from a Canadian point of view, there is a thought here that says since he has pulled out from this RBC event, it may mean he will play and defend his title at the RBC Canadian Open, which I'm on record as thinking he would not, because he has Jack's designated Memorial the week before and the US Open on the west coast the week after.
Will Zalatoris is also out, after back surgery which will sideline him until the fall, and Jason Day has also W/D with a recurrence of the thumb injury he sustained in February, His hand will be in a cast for 2 weeks, he is not returning until the Players in May.
There are 6 Canadians, Hughes, Connors, Taylor, Pendrith, Hadwin and Svensson.
LPGA : Brooke Henderson has been out for a month, but she has flown to Hawaii to play this week's LOTTE Championship on Oahu, where she is twice a winner 2018/2019.
Maude Aimee Leblanc, Maddie Szeryk and Alena Sharp are also in the field.
Korn Ferry : Veritex Bank Championship, Arlington see Wil Bateman, Michael Gligic and Ben Silverman in play with Roger Sloan listed as an alternative.
Rankings:
Jon Rahm back at #1, Patrick Reed up 25 spots to #45, Phil Mickelson soars from #425 to #72 Brooks Koepka #118 to #39.
