Gligic from Burlington worked closely with Canadian coach Sean Foley for the lengthy break between November's RSM Classic and the Sony Open to ensure that he has a strong start to the new year.
Hidkeki Matsuyama is the defending champion on this venerable Waialae course, which requires a complete opposite test to the Plantation course on Maui. Gone are the rolling hills and wide fairways, replaced by a tight treelined, flat, fairly short course.
Justin Thomas came here in 2017, shot 59 64 65 65 -27 for the tournament record. With ideal weather as you can see this old course doesn't set much of an exam for today's pros.
You regulars will know they flip the two nines just for this event, mainly so they can use the par 5 dogleg 9th for the closing hole and because the holes on the regular front nine give the best views of the setting sun for TV purposes.
