PGA Tour: American Express full scoreboard here.
The weather in the California desert at places like La Quinta is simple stunning at this time of year. The pictures that are beamed around the world on this resort hardly depict what the desert is really like.
Wealthy retirees amongst others live in air conditioned splendor in these heavily watered, well manicured homes and facilities.
Ideal conditions as well for golfing but despite PGA Tour officials setting the courses as difficult as they can for these pros, scores of -30 are not uncommon. There ate 5 of the world's top 7 here, and 10 of the top 20, so for a regular tour event the field is pretty well stacked.
However take for example the unheralded leader, an American rookie called Davis Thompson.
This was his La Quinta card beginning at the 1st: birdie, par, birdie, birdie, eagle, eagle, par par, birdie -8 28, a course record, a PGA Tour record. He shot -10 62.
26 players shot 66 or better, therein lies your water mark.
Canadian Adam Hadwin holds the tournament record low score with a 59 here. He played nicely again with 6 birdies and 2 bogey's -4 68. T42 on La Quinta.
Nick Taylor -2 70 T85 also La Quinta, Taylor Pendrith -1 71 T107 (LQ) and Michael Gligic struggled to +1 73 (SC)
Remember the field rotates through the 3 courses and the cut is made after 54 holes. They play the Jack Nicklaus Stadium course on Sunday.
