Zander Lombard led the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit last year and today the burly South African had one of the rounds of his career, a -7 65 to grab the lead going into the weekend at this Nedbank Golf Challenge on the Gary Player CC.
At -11 he leads Louis Oosthuizen who follwed his opening 63 with a grinding E 72 to stand 2nd alone. He looked uncomfortable at times today following his bout passing kidney stones yesterday, and said afterward he felt pain in his lower back on the 14th which he made bogey on, and followed with another on 15 before regaining his concentration coming in.
Lombard played with defending champion Lee Westwood (73) and legend Ernie Els who had one of his worst rounds after an effortless 68 on Thursday he was 13 shots worse,81 !
This Gary Player course is a tough one, and today the pins were tucked after their generous placement in round 1.
