In a week that saw our own Alena Sharp ranked #50 get all the way to the final 16, Norway's Suzann Pettersen #5 has edged Cristie Kerr #3 of the States 1up in a tightly contested match at the Sybase Match Play Championship at the Hamilton Farm GC, in Gladstone, New Jersey
Pettersen was 2 up, but Kerr birdied the 17th to send it to the last green. Pettersen sank a 15-foot birdie putt to seal the match and clinch her first victory of the 2011 season. Pettersen’s last win came at the 2009 CN Canadian Women’s Open.
Despite feeling under the weather for the majority of the week, Pettersen managed to win six straight matches to capture the title and the $375,000 first-place winner’s check.
