"He kind of left me in the dust literally out there"....McDowell re Kaymer..

They played together in today's opening round in the desert of Dubai.. Kaymer -5 67.... McDowell E, 72.
So a 5 shot advantage to Martin Kaymer over the Irishman with 3 rounds to play in the Race to Dubai playing in ideal conditions, sunny, warm, no wind..

Neither lead the tournament.. That honour goes to the lanky Swede Robert Karlsson -7,65, who suffered an eye problem 2 years ago which sidelined him for 3 months. He hasn't figured prominently since he won in Qatar earlier this year, but says he is feeling great, and he could have shot 63 until he drove the ball against a tree on the 18th, ended up with a bogey 6.

Kaymer lies 3rd, 2 shots behind Karlsson. Remember if it all comes together for him he can win The Race to Dubai, take home €2,000,000 and become the world's #1 player !!! He holed a 7 iron on the 3rd for an eagle 2 for the shot of the day..

McDowell needs to finish in the top 3 here at this Earth Course at the Jumeirah Golf Estates to have any chance of winning The Race to Dubai but he is T25. He has been suffering from a head cold.

I watched the 19 year old Korean kid. NOH, Seung-yul who is 2nd after -6 66 and he is another phenom. He made European Tour history in March when, at the age of 18 years and 281 days, he beat K J Choi to win the Malaysian Open, the youngest pro to do that.

Thailand's Jaidee has been playing well all through the far east swing, he is 4th -4 68, then comes the cavalry charge at -3 69... Westwood, Stenson, Garcia, Poulter, Schwartzel who had an ace on the 6th, and Canizares.

Westwood is the defending champion.
