I mentioned year end awards earlier today and it got me thinking of Freddie Couples rookie season on the Champions Tour... He turned 50 on Oct 3 2009..
I watched Freddie here at our RBC Canadian Open, RBC is one of his sponsors, and he missed the cut on a St Georges course the guys were tearing apart. That's always been my thing about Freddie,it just seems to me when he is in the mood and on he is great, otherwise he just seems to want to be on a couch somewhere with his favourite comfort food and some team from Houston on his TV !!
Anyhow he was sensational on the Senior circuit in this his rookie year..
He played in 17 events.... won 4...was 2nd in 4... was 3rd in 1, won over $2.35m and don't forget he was in the thick of it at the Masters until Sunday.. still he finished 6th
Here's the rest !!.. He was No.1 in six of the 10 statistical categories and set all time records in 3 of them
Scoring 67.96 (all-time record)
Driving Distance 292.8
Putting 1.693 (all-time record)
Birdies 5.00
Eagles 50.8 (all-time record)
Sand Saves 65.4%
Bernhard Langer led Greens In Regulation (74.9%), Allen Doyle was No.1 in Driving Accuracy (82.23%) and Nick Price claimed the Total Driving (24) and All-Around (52) categories
