This morning has dawned in a pouring rain, not what you expect in Rabat, near the desert of Morocco, and England’s Chris Hanson faces one of the most important rounds of his golfing career on Sunday as he takes a one shot lead into the final 18 holes of the Trophée Hassan II.
A five under par 67 at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam handed the 30 year old Qualifying School graduate a one shot lead on six under for the week.
Hanson, who finished fourth in a Challenge Tour event in Madrid last week, has never finished higher than 39th on The European Tour, but carded five birdies, two bogeys and an eagle on the par-five 12th to sit a shot clear of compatriot David Dixon and Clément Berardo of France.
Having carded three birdies over his first 11 holes, Hanson suddenly found himself leading when his chip on the 12th hit the pin and dropped for eagle.

John Daly grabs the headlines, Maggert and Parnevik the lead at Insperity Invitational

John Daly 70 73 -1 T21 has grabbed all the headlines with his Champions Tour debut and it's been a long week for a guy who hasn't been in the spotlight for a while.
After a practice round on Sunday, he has played in 4 pro-ams, speaking engagements at dinners, filming a commercial and of course countless interviews he says he's a bit tired going into today, but happy to be back with his peers.
He was paired with his pals Fuzzy and Peter Jacobsen for a very comfortable debut on Friday and says he will be changing to a heavier Scotty Cameron putter today to see if he can hole a few.
Canadian Stephen Ames 67 73 -4 T8 is one of 12 players within 4 shots of the lead. Rod Spittle 73 72 +1 Jim Rutledge 77 76 +9 are the other two ini the field.
As for the leaders, playing on his home course Jeff Maggert 68 69 -7 along with our old pal Jesper Parnevik 69 68 -7.
Maggert reckons he has played the course over 1000 times since he was a junior member and this late bloomer used a top 10 finish here in 2015 to go on and win the Senior Player of the Year award with 2 majors and two others.

Roughly 3 1/2 inches of rain fell on Quail Hollow in the five days leading up to the start of the Wells Fargo Championship. A sub-air system kept the greens firm and blustery winds have continued to dry the course out with lightning fast greens.
Saturday's scoring average was the highest of the week at 73.692 with just five rounds under 70.
One of those was Rickie Fowler who fired a 68 to move right to the top of the leaderboard at -9 under for a 1 shot lead over Robert Castro (71)
Fowler is a much improved player since he won here in 2012 when he shot a final round 69 to come from 3 shots behind to win for the first time on the PGA TOUR. He beat Rory McIlroy and D.A. Points in a playoff , making birdie on the 18th in the sudden death to seal the win.
He has continued to grow and mature right in front of our eyes from the long haired kid with the oversized PUMA hat, to a solid pro, comfortable at world #5 in the company of his new contemporaries, including Rory, Jason and Jordan.
Next week he will defend the PLAYERS Championship he won last year in sudden death after a three-hole aggregate playoff and remember he then won the Deutsche Bank Championship and as he travels the world, has added a Scottish Open, and a win in Abu Dhabi as well. He has signed on with Butch Harmon who has given him a swing he can rely on under pressure
After his round he was talking about his progress and called the last four years a process. "You know, it was I would say before maybe not the complete belief or knowledge of knowing what to do and how to win to get the job done, but now it's fun to go out there and go take care of business."
He'll have to beat Castro (71) -8, who is looking for his 1st win, along with Justin Rose (69) -7 and James Hahn (68) who are T3.
Rory has looked a little Rusty so far and seems out of it after (73) has him 8 shots back at -1 as is Phil Mickelson who wrapped up his 76 with a snowman (8) on the 18th.
According to the stats gurus, since the tournament began in 2003, the first 15 holes have played to a total of 1,372 under par while the final three, two tough par 4's and the water surrounded par 3 17th, together called the Green Mile have been played in 5,557 over.
Canadian scores: Adam Hadwin 71 74 73 +2 T51 and Grahaem DeLaet 71 71 76 +2 T51.

McIlroy returns to play at Quail Hollow today

There are 5 Canadians teeing it up today at this Wells Fargo Championship at the popular Quail Hollow GC, which incidentally is about to undergo a serious re-vamping to upgrade the facilities and course to help secure major championships and the Ryder Cup in years to come.
This week MacKenzie Hughes Monday qualified to join Nick Taylor, Adam Hadwin David Hearn and Graham DeLaet who are paired together off #10 at 2pm.
However the headline grabber is Rory McIlroy who won here in 2010 and has been missing in action for several weeks. He hasn't won yet this year.
Jordan Spieth gave a press conference on Tuesday and he is spending a couple of days at US Open site, Oakmont before both will compete at the Players next week.
Pgatour.com reports that Spieth did what most young guys with time to burn and money to spend did after Augusta: he went on a well-appointed Spring Break. Spieth joined Rickie Fowler, Smylie Kaufman and Justin Thomas for a getaway at a tropical resort, a vacation that included a little golf and a lot of unwinding.
“We were having fun, we were relaxed,” Spieth said. “We were able to play golf and golf was kind of secondary to the relaxation part of the trip.”

A truly international field has arrived in the grounds of his Royal Highness Moulay Rachid for the seventh annual Trophee Hassan II but this year there is a new twist.
The European and Ladies European Tours came together with a mixed exhibition match on the eve of the Trophée Hassan II and the Lalla Meryem Cup at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, in Rabat.
With the two tournaments running concurrently for the first time this week, the exhibition match provided the perfect platform for the two Tours to showcase the groundbreaking initiative.

The men will be teeing it up on the Red Course in the Trophée Hassan II while over on the Blue Course the women will be competing in the Lalla Meryem Cup as the two Tours come together at one venue for the first time.
This will not be the last time that the men and the women share the same venue this season, as they will all be brought together in Rio de Janeiro in August when golf returns to the Olympic Games for the first time in 112 years.

Brooke Henderson's run of 8 straight top 10 finishes is over as she finished play at this Texas Shootout with a 71 T19 at -3.
The winner is yet another South Korean girl who grew up in Torrance, California, and won the 2006 U.S. Girls’ Junior. Jenny Shin won her first LPGA event in 133 starts with a -4 67 -14 total.
She was 2 shots ahead of local favourite Gerina Piller, who birdied the final hole for a 73 to T2 -12, with more South Koreans, Amy Yang and Mi Jung Hur who both shot 71.
The win was worth $195,000.
