Alena Sharp stars, Henderson struggles at windswept AIG Womens Open.. live scoring

It was quite a morning for Alena Sharp at  the AIG Women's Open. With the wind howling from the SW it's right in the players faces for the first 6 holes. Remember this week pars are great, bogey's are good, just stay away from the big numbers is key.

Alena would have been nervous enough paired with Dame Laura Davies, then even more so when she drove it OB. Still she recovered with a double bogey 6, then birdied 4 and 5, a rare feat this morning, and took 3 bogey's to go out in 39. After a bogey at 10, Alena had a great run of 4 birdies and all the rest pars for 32 and her E 71 which had the clubhouse lead for most of Thursday.

Brooke Henderson couldn't have picked a worse day to return to competitive golf after 5 months away, a howling SW wind at Royal Troon and not unexpectedly she struggled, in particular with her putter, shooting +6 77 T91.

Like so many she went out into the wind in 40 with 2 doubles and a bogey, one birdie. She added 3 more bogey's coming in, managed a birdie at the par 5 16th for 37.

There are only 4 below par so far today, the wind persists and Friday is expected to be worse with rain mixed in.

German Sophia Popov is the clubhouse leader at -1 70, and American Amy Olson is closing her round at -3 as I write.

Veteran Catriona Matthew has delighted the Scots with her E 71
