Brooke Henderson misses playoff by a shot at Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions.. Gabby Lopez wins.

Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions final scoreboard..https://www.lpga.com/leaderboard

For me,the best part of Sunday's battle for the title at this year's LPGA opener, the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions was the fight Brooke Henderson put up.

Trailing by 5 strokes at the beginning of play with some of the games best ahead of her, Inbee Park, Nasa Hataoka, Gabby Lopez and MJ Hur were among the field of 26 winners from the llast two seasons.

Hur made 10 birdies for the low round of the day 63, and Brooke who had 2 birdies and 2 bogey's on the front nine, made 4 of her own on the back for 67 and both got to -12, just a shot out of the playoff between Park (71), Lopez (66) and Hataoka (68), all at -13.

The diminutive 21 year old Hataoka and Gabby Lopez dressed in the red and green of Mexico matched scores 5 times on the difficult par 3 18th after Park dropped out, before darkness stopped play with classic rock music favourites blaring in the stands surrounding the green.

Update: This morning Lopez made a long birdie putt on the 7th playoff hole for the win and $180,000. It is her 2nd LPGA win.

Brooke T4, worth $74,933 and it was the third straight year she opened with a top 10. Her amateur playing partner, John Smoltz former Atlanta Braves star pitcher and Hall of Famer, repeated as winner of the celebrity division with 150 points in the modified stableford event.
