European Tour Omega Dubai Desert Classic leaderboard https://www.europeantour.com/european-tour/omega-dubai-desert-classic
Opening day dawned with a stiff breeze blowing across the Emirates GC at this year's Omega Desert Classic at the ever growing, magnificent city of Dubai, and the morning wave certainly got the worst of it and the new thick rough surrounding nearly every hole.
Only 29 players broke par, many of them later in the day. Big hitting Belgian Star Thomas Pieters was the best of the bunch at -5 67 despite starting his round double bogey, bogey, for a one shot lead over Asian based American David Lipsky -4 68.
There are a dozen players next at -3. Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau was very optimistic with an opening -2 70 after missing the cut last week, saying "once I get my driver going I'll be dangerous." Louis Oosthuizen and Sergio Garcia are in at -1 71.
Last week's winner in Abu Dhabi, Lee Westwood struggled mightily in the wind to a +6 78.
