After opening with two pars, Casey went on to birdie six of the next seven holes to reach the turn in 29 and surge into a two-shot advantage at -15.
His scoring stalled on the back nine as he traded shots at the 14th and 15th before finishing with a closing birdie for a total of -16 to begin Sunday with a 3 shot lead.
Sunday Playoff
Casey began at 6.25am EST with a 3 shot lead which would prove to be a saviour, after he posted 2 bogey's and a double on his front nine, offset by 3 birdies +1 36.
However coming in he posted 4 birdies and all pars until the 18th, where his drive found the right rough, his wedge landed in the rough beside the green, and he took 3 to get down for bogey 5 and -18 total
Thirsten Lawrence vying to tie Seve Ballesteros with 3 wins, was in great form, with a bogey free,8 birdie 62 -18, he was in the clubhouse watching as Casey made bogey at the 18th to allow a playoff.
Harry Hall 63, finished 3rd at -17. Then there were sixT4 at -16. Hidalgo 64, Wiesberger 64, LaPorta 65, Ayora 66, Chacarra 67.
PLAYOFF
#1 Both players were right with their drives, Casey in the bunker, Lawrence intermediate rough. Casey found the front edge of the green 39' away while Lawrence was long, left 59' away with his approach.
Both made 2 putts, par 4.
#2. Casey's drive long and straight down the middle, Lawrence right rough again. Casey's approach lands 10 feet away, Lawrence was to 26' he two putts for par.
Casey misses the 10 footer for the title, par 4.
#3. Both players found the fairway with their drives. Lawrence 22' away with approach, Casey 8'... Lawrence 2 putt par...Casey misses 8' for the title !
#4. Thirsten Lawrence makes birdie 3 to win his record tying 3rd Omega European Masters.
