Muirfield Village, the wind, the scoring soared... Poston/Gerard are leaders, ..36 hole results

    PGA Tour : Memorial Tournament Tee Times Leaderboard

" I can't put it into words how hard that was, that was the hardest round I can remember, major or non major, that was just insane"

That was a common summation of Friday at the Memorial by Justin Thomas as he barely made the cut 74 75 +5, as I mentioned the wind was going to get up Friday and again Saturday on a very tough Muirfield Village and it did and so did the scoring.

Here's a few, with  the generous cut at +5 who may have been humming the old song " What a difference a day makes"

* Nick Taylor 68 78 +2

* Ludvig Aberg 71 78 +5

* Justin Rose 69 76 +1

* JJ Spaun 67 77 E

* Wyndham Clark 67 75 -2

* Tommy Fleetwood 67 73 -4

* owgr #1 Scott Scheffler 73 72 +1 and #2 Rory McIlroy 71 74 +1 are both 10 shots behind.

Canadians

T12 Taylor Pendrith  71 73 E

T28  Nick Taylor 68 78 +2

T38 Sudarshan Yellamaraju 73 74  +4

T47 Corey Conners 74 75 +5

On the bright side two golfers,1st, JP Poston 70 65 -9 and 2nd Ryan Gerard 67 69 -8 have defied the odds, caught a slight break with the weather, played superbly and made some putts better than all the rest, 3rd  Sam Burns 69 69 -6  was not bad either.

Note ***** Poston's 65 moved him up 80 places !

WEATHER

More of the same, the SW wind is a wee bit worse in the morning, 11am :24km/h with 60% chance of TStorms easing to 18kmh in the afternoon. So a delay in play is not a long shot

Sunday the wind drops significantly NW 6km/h with 0% chance of rain.

OPINION

The lead at -9/-8 is invaluable given the weather for Saturday, however it is precarious, and not likely to be improved.

However, it's clear they are at least 4 shots better than the rest, who if this scoring continues on Saturday, will have trouble closing the gap without some help.

The pack's job on moving day, is a common one, to get into such a position, that when a benign Sunday arrives it will make scoring much lower to make a run at the title.

Oh yes friends, there seems to be a gentleman's agreement with the players and broadcasters not to mention MONEY.

So yes, they are playing for $20,000,000, around $3,800,000 for the jackpot.
