Brooke Henderson 71 72 71 72 -2 and Alena Sharp 76 70 66 73 -2 T17 to fail to mount a final round challenge for this ANA Inspiration, the first major of the LPGA season at Rancho Mirage on the famed Dinah Shore course, however they both finish inside the top 20 after battling all week in the heat of the California desert.
A little South Korean woman, Jin Young Ko (69 71 68 70), the reigning Rookie of the Year, has won by 3 shots at -10 over Mi Hyang Lee, also from South Korea.
Consider this, she is the 15th different Korean to win an LPGA major since Se Ri Pak broke through in 1998 with the KPMG Women’s PGA and the U.S. Women’s Open.
At 20, she was second at the 2015 Women’s British Open; she picked up her first LPGA win in 2017 and won again in 2018 on her way to being Rookie of the Year. Now she has two titles this year, adding the ANA Inspiration to the Bank of Hope Founders Cup as she moves right into contention for the Player of the Year award
Lexi Thompson shot a closing 67 to finish 3rd at -6.
Ko was rendered to tears after her winning putt, and in halting English she thanked her parents and her grandfather before making the famous jump into Poppy's pond.
