Corey Connors has won the Valero Texas Open

PGA Tour Valero Texas Open final leaderboard https://www.pgatour.com/competition/2019/valero-texas-open/leaderboard.html

Corey Connors survived a 4 birdie, 4 bogey front nine to shoot another brilliant -6 66 and book himself a spot at next week's Masters by winning his first PGA Tour event, the Valero Texas Open.

He becomes the first golfer to win on the PGA Tour after qualifying on a Monday in nine years. Corey calmly made three birdies in the final five holes, to get to -20 total, winning by two shots over Charley Hoffman (67 -18)

Conners, the 2014 U.S. Amateur runner-up, will play in his second Masters. In 2015 as an amateur he shot 80,69 to miss the cut. He played both rounds with Mike Weir.

On Sunday he had 10 birdies and four pars that sandwiched those four consecutive bogeys on the front nine.

Crucially and I thought it was the turning point, he sunk a 10-footer to save par at the 15th, then nearly holed his tee shot, to set up a birdie at the 175-yard par-3 16th. The icing on the cake was his birdie at the 17th which gave him a three-shot lead walking up the final hole.

Mackenzie Hughes (73) and Adam Svensson (70) T42nd at -5. Nick Taylor (72) T52 -4 and they were all waiting at the 18th with beers when Corey arrived.

After what I'm sure were more than a few beers, Corey and his wife, Malory were flown by ANA Inspiration to Augusta and will arrive at to be greeted by the 2003 champion Mike Weir, with a 2 year exemption on the PGA Tour in his pocket, over $1m in his bank account, and a place in Canadian golf history.
