PGA Tour : AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Tee Times
I am old enough to remember when this was known as the "Clambake" hosted by Bing Crosby who invited a few of his Hollywood friends to join the pros on this spectacular ultra wealthy stretch of Pacific coastline called the Monterey Peninsula.
Phil Harris famous singer, band leader, comedian was a life long friend of Crosby and he would perform and conduct between hole interviews as the players passed through, sitting with a huge cauldron of clams being cooked.
Now its a huge corporate pro-am sponsored by AT&T, this year designated as a signature event worth $20,000,000 and I count 80 players in the field, including Scottie Scheffler making his return to action after a freak accident cutting his hand making ravioli on Christmas day
note*** this quote yesterday from Rory McIlroy regarding Scheffler :
“I've never – this is anyone, this is Tiger, this is in the history of golf – I don't think I've ever seen a golfer play as many bogey-free rounds as Scottie. He just doesn't make mistakes. It's so impressive.
He plays the right shot at the right time over and over and over again,” McIlroy added. “You obviously need the technical ability to be able to do that, but he doesn't make mistakes. And when you don't make mistakes on the golf course, the game can become pretty easy. … If he continues to do that, he's going to be the dominant force that he was last year and the year before that.”
The weather is cool by southern California standards with a high of 60*F, winds fairly light picking up over the weekend with some rain in the forecast.
