Austrian Sepp Straka takes commanding lead at The American Express.. 54 hole scoreboard.

PGA Tour : The American Express Leaderboard

Austrian Sepp Straka comes from a beautiful country of snow capped mountains, deep lush green valleys where many of his fellow sportsmen are reknown skiers, or professional footballers.

He obviously is equally at home in the California desert of the Coachella Valley at La Quinta, in perfect benign, sunny hot weather, a tranquil peaceful quiet place just south of Palm Springs, a winter home for many of America's rich and famous.

Bob Hope attracted Presidents and movie stars when hosted this pro Am in his pomp.

Straka is playing superb golf, posting 65 64 64 -23 breaking out of the tightly packed leaderboard by 4 clear shots heading into Sunday.

Charlie Hoffman Jason Day and Justin Lower are next T2 at -19 while Patrick Cantlay is 5th -18 with Mark Hubbard.

The cut fell at -9 which is often a winning score, however not on these three of the easiest tests the Tour will face all year. The final round will be contested on the Pete Dye Stadium Course, playing the most difficult this week.

Canadians

Nick Taylor T29  65 66 73 -12

Mac Hughes T29  70 68 66 -12

Adam Hadwin -6  Adam Svensson -4 and Ben Silverman +2 have all M/C.
