Why Patrick Reed is not at Waste Management Phoenix Open.. Thursday TEE TIMES

 Waste Management Phoenix Open

Now why do you think Patrick Reed would choose to fly from LA through 12 time zones to King Abdullah Economic City in Saudi Arabia, instead of just the jaunt from LA to Phoenix..?

The prize fund is $3,500,000 with around $600,000 to the winner in the Middle East, but $7.3m with $1.3m to the winner, and the Ryder Cup points on award are about the same, and there are points available to the Race to Dubai and the Fed Ex Cup.

He says he loves the European Tour, "gets him out of his comfort zone back home".. Ok, admirable but I'm sure he could have adjusted his schedule to obtain the same goal.

First class travel is very comfortable, he will be greeted with open arms and opulence at both destinations..

So how about this. King Abdullah and his ridiculously oil rich family offered Patrick and all the other stars more appearance money guaranteed than he would have received by winning in Phoenix..

Oh yes and he'll be a million miles away from all the noise about his cheating that would follow from San Diego, despite the fact there will only be a restricted number of fans in Phoenix. There are next to none in Saudi and few journalists.

Patrick

Now that makes sense, although, and this would be no surprise, he would deny it.

Rory McIlroy 8am 10th, is the headliner, Webb Simpson the defending champion and there are three Canadians this week, Nick Taylor 8,40 10th, Corey Connors 12.40 10th and Adam Hadwin 11.40 10th.
