The return to a regular schedule on the Champions Tour has been just what Mike Weir needed at this time in his storied career. He has 4 top 10 finishes in 11 starts, 6 in the top 25, including a 2nd and a T4 with a scoring average of 69.5.
Yesterday was one of his best rounds in windy conditions at Tucson National in the 7th annual Cologuard Classic he opened with 2 birdies then 7 straight pars, before running off 5 birdies in 7 holes including the last 2 for a back nine 32, a bogey free -7 66.
" Overall it was a solid round all the way around, I made a few nice putts, when you shoot -7 it's a few close ones, played well too"
Stephen Ames shot +2 75 T59th.
Weir leads Scott Verplank (67 -6) by a shot and he tees off at 12.01 local time today with Verplank and Paul Goydos (68 -5)
Phil Mickelson garnering all the headlines as usual shot -3 70 as he attempts to win his 3rr straight Champions Tour title.
