In the first 2 rounds Riviera is playing so tough only 10 players have shot in the 60's twice. Guys like Rory, Bubba, Justin, Bryson, and Sergio have all missed the cut, for McIlroy it snapped his no cut streak at 25.
Through all that 24 year old Sam Burns hasn't missed a beat with rounds of 64 66 and that my friends has him 5 shots clear of the pack at -12 going into play today after tying the 36 hole scoring record with Mike Weir among others.

So that's the target that Dustin Johnson 68 67 leads a group of 4 players all on -7 trying to close the gap on the young man from LSU. For those asking me, Jordan Spieth is T6 68 68 -6
Canadians: Three of four made the cut which fell at E, with Corey Connors 72 71 just missing at +1. Mac Hughes is T28 68 71 -2, Nick Taylor T40 72 69 -1 and Adam Hadwin T56 71 71 E, none in contention, but then who is with Burns at -12.
Inevitably big leads on Friday night get whittled away, so it's really up to Burns who only took one year to graduate from the Korn Ferry tour and is quietly confident that he belongs in this company.
We'll see, the fantastic sunny calm weather is forecast to continue all weekend, so Riviera as fast and firm as it's ever been will not be an easy course to catch up on.
