Omega Dubai Desert Classic Leaderboard
Sergio Garcia was delighted with his early -6 66 at this Omega Dubai Desert Classic and it stood up as the clubhouse lead for much of the day until Richard Sterne rolled in his 9th birdie for an unexpected -8 64 as the sun set on another picture perfect day in the desert surrounding this space age city of Dubai.
Garcia won here in 2017 before going on to win the major he so badly wanted to add to his Hall of Game career, the Masters at Augusta. Sterne
Sterne has won 6 times in his career but has only played 5 times since wrist surgery last March before the COVID break. Asian American Kurt Kitayama who plays entirely on the European Tour joined Sterne late in the day with a -7 65, pushing Garcia and Justin Harding into T3.
Paul Casey led for much of the day before stalling at -5 67 in a group that includes Scotland's Bob MacIntyre
Last week's winner Tyrrell Hatton found the tricky greens problematic on his way to +4 76.
