Early story
With the overnight rain the North course at Osprey Valley was playing soft, intermittent light rain fell on and off throughout the morning, without much of a breeze, the guys were either in rain gear, under umbrella's or in short sleeves.
To their credit a huge crowd showed up on the 10th tee at 645am to see Ben Silverman, then Mike Weir, then the 3 Canadians Pendrith, Hughes and Taylor tee off, followed by Rory, Ludvig Aberg and a very young Luke Clanton in his first PGA Tour event.
Rory did not have his A game this morning, out in +1 36, he made back to back birdies at the turn (1&2) but gave them back with a bogey, bogey finish, his massive drive at the par 4 8th plugged in the face of a fairway bunker.
More importantly for Rory watchers, he didn't have that jump in his step, his body language was a bit bored to be honest, getting up at 4am will do that to you !!
Round two late wave is out as I post his at 2pm EST.
Late story
The showers cleared through, the breeze died down, the North course was left unprotected, soft, as easy as it will get this week.
As a result a 31 year old Chilean with an old Hollywood pirates name Cristobel Del Solar with very little PGA Tour experience shot a 61 along with Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen for the lead at -9.
Cameron Champ had 62 -8 and former bouncer turned pro Jake Knapp 63. I had to scroll down to T70 to find the first score over par.
*******The cut is projected at -2******
