PGA Tour : RBC Canadian Open
Click here for a full field list for the 2025 RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Caledon, Ont.
It's the 2nd oldest non major on the PGA Tour, the RBC Canadian Open being proudly held for the first of 2 years, on the newly renovated North Course at Osprey Valley, in Caledon, Ontario, a short ride north from Pearson International Airport where most of the field have already landed and settled into their accommodations for the week.
There are 21 Canadians at my last count, already listed here in a prior post.
Of the 156 storylines, Nick Taylor who's history making 75 foot eagle, playoff putt, the jump into his caddie's arms in 2023 is now immortalized on the the RBC Canadian logo, and of course two time champion Rory McIlroy returning will ensure sold out crowds, and huge TV ratings in Canada.
While Nick was 4th last week at the Memorial, Corey Conners is the top ranked Canadian, he has won the Rivermead Cup for the last 2/3 years as low Canadian.
While defending champion, Robert MacIntyre with his dad Dougie, a groundskeeper back home in Oban, Scotland on his bag, left not a dry eye in the closing ceremonies, he will have to beat not only Rory who T4 last year, but Ludvig Aberg, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, Max Homa, Sungjae Im and Rasmus Hojgaard amongst the highly rated players.
Having both volunteered and broadcast this championship since 1985, it along with the CP Women's Canadian Open are the two pro golf events circled on every Canadian sports fans calendar, and one I have been fortunate to have had so many fond memories and friendships from inside the ropes.
There is a real buzz around Toronto when the world's best arrive to contest this title, always with the hope a Canadian will win it like Nick two years ago, and favourite son and 2003 Masters Champion Mike Weir so narrowly lost to VJ Singh in 2004, now playing his 32nd championship.
With the Leafs out of the Stanley Cup finals, and the Jays on the road in Minnesota for the weekend, and while the Grey Cup champion Argos open their 2025 season on the road in Montreal on Friday night, the RBC Canadian Open will have the Toronto stage to themselves.
WEATHER
Note... there is cold front with rain moving into the GTA on Wednesday night and lingering through Thursday, so a wet start. However the rest of the week looks free of rain, cooler with highs in the low 20's C. The wind mostly NW, N, NE all week gusting to 16kph at times, will switch to SE Sunday afternoon, picking up to 18+kph.
